My Ryobi string trimmer is the worst piece of crap I have purchased in my79 years. I can use it for about five minutes before it finds one of about six ways to screw up and I have to stop and fix it. You almost need three hands to get the cord box open. I am using the correct plastic cord for it, that is not the problem, just very poor design.

The Ryobi 18V 13″ cordless string trimmer/edger is totally useless, do not frustrate yourself in purchasing one!!! I have purchased one a week ago and the shield would not fit on, took it back and like a fool tried another one and the same thing, there is no way to fit the shield with the string cutter on to it. I am totally frustrated that I have to attempt to get another one back into the box, which is impossible, again and return it!!! I am done with Ryobi!!!!
Jon Lazzaretti says

I used Ryobi for years never had a problem. Maybe the people making the bad comments can’t tie their shoe either.

What’ a shoe? DUH.
How about the .080” single line & spool. After trimming five feet the line curled. in on itself. If I wasn’t so mad it would have been hilarious.
Someone complained about a poor fitting shield. I used a very sharp blade to carve away the plastic around not one screw hole , but TWO!!! Am now seeking other options. China? can you hear my sneer?
Murray George Murdoch says
First use of the 18v trimmer. Line disappeared into housing. Couldn’t get cap off without using screwdiver to depress one side off cap. Finally got cap off and pushed line through hole and reassembled it.. Started edging lawn when line disappeared back in housing, this time it was easier to get cap off only to find out that the line was under the line in housing which prevented it from advancing. Fixed that issue only to have it stop whipping the lawn edge because the line had extended and was now wrapped around the motor shaft outside off housing. Line could not be pulled free. First use, being returned. I had fewer problems with my line voltage Weedeater. My Ryobi battery screwdriver (not made any more ) is still working fine, Maybe the 18v string trimmer needs more development. It’s insulting to blame people for having issues. I’m wondering if you work for Ryobi?
Cristina Gonzalez says
Not purchasing their trimmers again! Too much trouble with them. Customer service is horrible! Long waits. They send you to a service center for repairs that is not accepting their products. I am so disappointed that I wasted so much money purchasing this product!
